Oils – an up date

The more expensive oils such as olive oil and  the drizzling oils  you can get  in glass bottles with metal caps. They are almost plastic free though the caps will have a little plasticized disc or plastic liner on inside and maybe a plastic seal and perhaps a plastic pouring widget in the bottle top.

Like I can’t pour oil out of a bottle???

You can buy these oils from every supermarket in  the UK

But who can afford to use such expensive treats for making chips? Not me. I need a plastic free source of  cheap  veg oil. Dream on sucker. All the vegetable oil I have found comes in plastic bottles or cans.

Cans? Surely my problem is solved? Not so. The cans have a plastic lid and handle and are almost certainly lined with plastic. Nearly all cans are to prevent the cans corroding.

On the plus side the can has a high recycle value.

So I go with the can which I buy from . Khadims the  Asian Supermarket on Blacker Road Huddersfield. I also buy my loose basmati rice from them – and my metal pan scrus.

You can find information on plastic lined cans here
