You want to  shop plastic free then you need to get bagged up and here’s how……

First you need your  resuable, ideally fold up,  carrier bag.   This is an easy peasy  way to immediatly cut plastic consumption – now you just have to remember to take it out with you. My bags of choice are those old granny favourites, string bags.

I also  bought these tiny little fold up bags from Onyabags   they do a particularly good range. As well as the standard shopper they do a rather nice messenger bag and a really handy fold up rucksack.

Another fantastic reusable bag to have with you are cotton or net produce bags.  Use these instead of the plastic bags provided for   loose vegetable and fruit.  You can get them from these retailors.

Some folks can get away with taking reusable containers like Tupperware to the butchers but I have found disposable bags easier to convince retailers to use.
For meat and fish I use  bio bags (corn starch bags – made from vegetables they are fully compostable

For cheese and such like its old school paper bags.

Finally we wend our way to the deli counter where we say no to plastic pots and supply these PLA compostable alternatives.

Use these and your weekly shop will be plastic free.

And all your waste compostablle

Yahey

  • So in 2007 we began to boycott stupid and unnecessary plastic products and source biodegradable alternatives.
