Who are we……

Why Plastic

The boycott started as a personal response to the increase in plastic rubbish littering the environment – the bags in trees the rubbish washed up on the beaches. Plastic of course doesn’t biodegrade so this rubbish is increasing exponentially and it was driving us fricking crazy.

Then we got to thinking how much plastic rubbish we created. In fact we monitored it – you can see  HERE how much plastic we  got through in a week.

Eeeek!

Now we wanted to see if it was possible to go without plastic, for us to stop creating a huge pile of plastic rubbish each and everyday. Being  plastic dependant we decided to do it bit by bit. To start slow – build up those green muscles gradually. So each month we stopped “using” a piece of disposable plastic , and source a non plastic alternative.

In 2007  we started blogging about it over at plasticisrubbish.blog.co.uk .

In 2008 we moved over  here to WordPress.

We don’t boycott all plastic – we are happy to use the Dyson, the computer and TV .  However we do shun trashy items that have a limited lifespan and plastic items for which there is a viable natural alternative. We prefer biodegradable products stuff that that can be burnt on our stove or composted..

Some times of we have compromise for the greater good – for example we use wooden pegs that come in plastic packaging. We feel that the overall plastic reduction is worth the annoying wrapping.

Along the way we have learnt a lot about plastic.
