Well theres no point having a plastic free soft drink if you are going to put a straw in. So I of course refues them. I wish that others did the same. A few days ago just as a little experiment I walked in a staright line along the beach past the beach shacks and the jolly holiday makers slurping their their drinks through brightly coloured straws. As I walked I collected those straws that had fallen out of glasses and onto the sand. I didnt deviate, I didnt pick up straws that were not in my path. I collected 72 and if I had picked up all I could it would have been a whole lot more. These starws will be washed out to sea where they will join the rest of the plastic rubbish polluting the oceans. Needless to say I refuse plastic straws in my drink . I am not always successful .”No straw” even said in a very loud English voice is often always understood. The accompanying sucking mime raises eysbrows to say the least but still I persist. Please join me, please say NO to straws when out and about. Or perhaps bring your own reusable straw. Or insist your bar of choice buys these compostable straws.
