Recycling foil

This is on a need to know basis – you will need to know this when I talk plastic free puds.

Foil can be recycled – see here for what and why

Small pieces need to be scrunched up into a ball so they dont damage the machine… my mate Mrs Average ( her of the Rubbish Diet and how to cut your waste) can tell you all you need to know about balls of foil here for how to collect and then recycle it …

If you are a bit arty you can make a very lovely ball and photo it with posh cars

Chocolates and Love

English: Chocolates in wrappers on a plate

English: Chocolates in wrappers on a plate (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

dont care if the lady loves milk tray, shes not getting a box of chocks from me.
Not with that plastic wrapping, plastic cover sheet, plastic sweet tray and, to be honest, rather nasty chocolate.
Before you call me hard hearted there is a plastic free alternative.
For example, Sweet Treats in Marsh are selling British and Belgium chocolates loose.
You can buy a separate cardboard box to put them in or you could make your own packaging.
Thornton’s  also do loose chocks.

If the loose chocolates are too expensive you can buy other kinds of sweets from jars -

for mothers day my  mum got two ounces of liquorice torpedo’s in a paper bag.

plastic free greeting cards

The other day i was wandering through Tescos – recycling plastic coat hangers (of course) – when I came across the greetings cards.

Many of them were unwrapped ie not in the clear protective plastic packets… which surprised me.

So if you need a plastic free card you could buy them Tescos though these are my preffered options…

Carte Postallegreen cards which can be bought from local card shop in Byrams arcade.

Huddersfields own Dig The Earth- locally made cards in cornstarch, compostable bags.

It is worth checking local newsagents and post offices as they sometimes sell unwrapped cards.

Plastic free tea bags – or are they…?

You know some time ago I logged about Twinings and their plastic free tea bags – the box is not wrapped in plastic and bags used to come loose.

So pleased , means I can have biodegradable tea

Well then, feel my horror when I opened the familiar yellow box to be greeted by a plastic crackling and a gold shiny packet.
Argghh… no … wait a minute… un arghh. Its biodegradable and compostable packaging HURRAH.

However they are teabags and Wikipedia claims “Heat-sealed tea bag paper usually has a heat-sealable thermoplastic such as PVC or polypropylene as a component fiber on the inner tea bag surface.” I’m sure Twinings dont do that, and if they do I don’t want to know.

La la la fingers in ears time.

Dont like tanin tea? They also do plastic free fruit teas – see below

When the oil runs out ….

When the oil runs out so will oil based plastics.

Now while I have problems with oil based plastic, oil running out is not going to be such a great solution.

In fact, even those of you with no imagination whatsoever,  can probably forsee it will result in big lifestyle changes.

We are talking more than taking your own bag to the shops.

So thanks to the following groups for thinking and planning ahead
